Co2 monitor
HEPA air filter purificatin
Since last school year we have purchased equipment for each class to monitor and purify the air in classrooms.
MONITORING THE AIR QUALITY IN CLASSROOMS
- HEPA air purifiers
The school has purchased an air purifier with HEPA filters for every classroom and office in the school.
This type of air filter can theoretically remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns (µm).
These air purifiers help to clean the air in each classroom and have a colour codes warning.
If the level on the air purifier indicates a high reading all windows can be opened and pupils can leave the room to go outdoors to allow the classroom to be aired and readings to drop back to safe levels on the air purifier.
- CO monitors
The school has also purchased a CO2 monitor for every classroom and office in the school. The Department of Education & Skills has also funded the provision of an additional number of portable CO2 monitors for schools. The number of units provided will depend on the size of a school. Our school will qualify for 7 DES CO2 monitors.
The use of CO2 monitors can provide a useful general indication that areas/rooms within a building may not be adequately ventilated and can enable occupants to become familiar with the impact that activities, outdoor weather and window openings have on levels of good ventilation within a room.
Elevated CO2 levels (caused by people exhaling) are taken as a cue to ventilate the room, by opening windows. If the room is well ventilated, spread of Covid-19 will be reduced.
