The Dept. Of Ed. & Skills declared that there was to be no book rental last year – it was free. Parents had to just pay the amount towards resources.
Unfortunately, this is not the case this year.
The school book rental scheme is back and will be kept at €70 – which covers all school costs for the year – It is made up of: €40 book rental and €30 for photocopying, PE equipment, children’s’ printers’ ink, paper for children’s’ printers, treats, buses and art / craft supplies.
These books will be provided by the school and will be returned at the end of the year to be used once again. With this in mind it is the duty of the parents and child to ensure the books are kept safe and in good condition for the year as they will be needed again. The less replacements required year on year, the more of a cost saving we can pass on to all future parents.

Materials & resources €30
Families are asked to pay €30 for the 2021 – 2022 school year per child, which may be paid in instalments.
The €30 covers materials required in various subjects throughout the year which include art/crafts, computer software, ink for computer printers, drama, P.E., photocopying, concerts, seasonal activities, buses and yard games.
It also includes the provision of a new, personalised school diary specific to St. Bernadette’s SNS.
The total payment of €70 – €40 book rental + €30 resources & materials can be made on line, if you wish.

2020 – 2021
The Department of Education & Science are providing FREE Book Rental for this school year 2020-2021.
The Minister for Education & Science, Mr. Joe McHugh, announced on Thursday 9th January 2020 that DES would be providing additional funding to reduce the cost of school books in DEIS schools.
St. Bernadette’s Senior N. S. has been selected to take part in this pilot scheme. The objective of this one year pilot is to provide free school books for all the children in this school for the coming school year 2020-2021.
This will mean that your child will have all the books, workbooks and novels they require – leaving you just to get copies, pens, colouring markers, ruler and pencils.
These books will be provided by the school and will be returned at the end of the year to be used once again.
